DJ Services Planning Advice

Step One:
Visualize your dream wedding. Imagine the environment that you wish to have for your guests. The décor, dj set - up and lighting options, all play a large role in creating the perfect environment.

Step Two:
Consider the intricacies of your venue. How high are the ceilings? What is the capacity of the room? How many guests are expected to be present the night of the function? These questions can easily affect your decisions. How do you envision setting the room up? Where do you see the head table? Where do you picture the DJ booth? Where’s the dance floor in relation to the head table and DJ booth? Different lighting packages and set-ups require different space parameters.

Step Three:
Consult a professional, in regards to your lighting and dj/mc needs. With the information you have gathered in Step Two, the professional should be able to present different options to you that could suit your needs. Your vision is ultimately what we try to create. No two weddings or parties will ever be the same. Being unique and creative is what set’s everything apart. Lighting a room is a key factor in achieving the look you are going for. Lighting can accentuate key moments and give focus at specific moments. With moving head technology, your entertainment specialist can highlight your grand entrance, your first dance, your head table even your podium for speeches. This not only looks fantastic for your guests, it also looks great in the final product from your photo/video provider.

Step Four:
Choosing the right company to service your dj and entertainment needs, is just as big a decision as choosing the right venue and the right food. An established company, with references and photo / video demo’s will ensure that you are getting what you expect. Consider the personality and look of your ideal MC/DJ. Are you looking for an energetic, electrifying MC or would you prefer a classy, modest comedic MC? Does the company you wish to hire, portray the personality and presentation your looking for? Planning any event and executing everything properly requires good planning and experience. Will the company go the extra mile, to review every last detail with you (song selection and prioritizing key moments within the evening)?

Step Five:
Take the time to plan your party with the assistance of your entertainment service provider. The knowledge and expertise they have will help you when it comes to timing, and keeping a proper flow to the evening. Choosing the right song, for the right moment is what we are trained to do. If you require suggestions for your ceremony, cake cutting, first dance, parent dances etc., they should be readily available at your fingertips.

Depending on the style of entertainment you are looking for, your MC should be trained to play party, games, and interact with your crowd. This can be referred to as Party Animation. This is about creating the mood that you originally anticipated in step one. The classy style during dinner needs to be altered to provide for a dancing environment. With the help of lighting, special effects and party props, this can be done easily if your M.C/D.J is experienced.

During cocktails, dinner and dancing what music will create the right social environment for your guests? Will your light show reflect the mood, and possibly enhance the vibe of the setting? What will change, once dinner and dessert is over to encourage dancing?

Step Six:
Enjoy! It is important for you to have a free mind on your wedding day, knowing that all the details you’ve so carefully planned will actually be carried out as you envision. This should give you comfort and trust. Allow the professional’s to do what they do best… create the reality of your vision. All your wedding music planning should have your personal touch.

A Musical Tour of Your Wedding

Ceremony

This is the very beginning of the wedding, the time when the first guests arrive; sometimes refreshments or cocktails and horsd'oeuvres are served before the Ceremony begins. Listen to a few samples of music as you imagine the setting of your wedding and visualize your first guests arriving.

• AIR ON THE STRING
• THROUGH THEE YES OF LOVE
• LASIA CH'IO PIANGA

This term refers to the time just before the Wedding Party enters when everyone is seated, waiting for the Procession to begin. Special pre-processional music is usually played for escorting elderly or other honored guests not part of the official wedding party down the aisle. Picture the beautiful setting you imagine for your ceremony, your guests quietly waiting for your processional to begin as you listen to:

• The WEDDING SONG

The entrance of the Wedding Party, the groom, and then the Bride is considered the actual processional. Picture your family and friends, breathlessly waiting for the Processional to start, and then your wedding party walking down the aisle as you listen to Processionals.

• PACHELBEL'S CANON IN D
• AVE MARIA
• JESU

Sometimes a lighter piece of music is charming when it's used for a little flower girl or ring bearer.

• MINUET

This is the moment everyone's been waiting for... the moment the bride enters and walks down the aisle with her dad, parents or another significant person. Imagine yourself walking down the aisle as you listen to different choices ranging from dramatic and contemporary, to more traditional.

• CON TE PARTIRO
• BRIDAL CHORUS
• ARIOSO

The actual ceremony is the time when you exchange vows and rings--the time for prayers, blessings, invocations and pronouncements. Most of us refer to this as the ceremony, though bands, DJs or caterers sometimes use the term to mean everything that takes place before the reception.

• COMING HOME

An optional but increasingly popular part of the Ceremony, the unity candle is a formal candle lighting and brief period of reflection as you join your two lives (and your families) as one. Listen to 'The Family Unity' song as you picture your new family around you.

• YOURS, MINE & OURS

The time after the Ceremony is for celebrating-whether sit-down dinner, buffet or light refreshments-and it's always after the Interlude. (Not all weddings have interludes, or full dinner or dance receptions, but virtually all weddings have music)

Reception

Cocktail Hour is generally a time for easy soft listening music. A mix of adult contemporary, jazz and oldies are always great. A little funk and pop in the mix will always have your guests in the groove. Cocktail hour will generally last approximately one hour.

Introducing the bridal party in to the room is an exciting moment in the evening. According to your wishes, this is where you MC will start working with your crowd the way you have originally discussed. It is important to have the right songs to represent each category of participant. Most songs used are instrumentals so that the MC can talk over the music. For example, if you are introducing your parents and grandparents in to the room, consider using songs that are generational to their era. Our recommendation is a song like Havana, or Copacabana, maybe Elvis or possibly some Disco.

Everything is a build up for the big grand entrance of the bride and groom. So introducing the Bridesmaids and Ushers is a critical time. Generally, the bridesmaids and usher’s have the most energy. Current hits, top forty, dance and house tracks are fantastic to use. Something with a strong beat and baseline is sure to suit the moment perfectly. Most popular songs are

• Usher – Yeah
• Justin Timberlake – Sexy Back
• Get this Party Started - Pink
• Spiller – Groove Jet
• You Shook Me Instrumental – ACDC

The age of your ring boy and flower girl are a factor when selecting a song for them. If they are really young, sesame street or a cartoon theme song works really well. ABC- Jackson 5 is most commonly used as it suits almost any young age.

Being introduced for the first time as husband and wife should be a moment you’ll never forget. The energy level in the room should be at a peak! The choice of song will ensure that you get the reaction you’re looking for. Most popular song choices are:

• Let’s Get It Started – Pink
• Reach Up
• Put your Hands Up in the Air – Daft Punk
• David Guetta – The Egg
• Global Deejay’s – Technotronic Get Up

Your entertainment provider may also be able to create a custom intro for you.

Traditionally, a first dance for a bride and groom should be a sentimental moment, where for the first time as husband and wife you share a dance. Most popular first dance songs are:

• Amazed – Lonestar
• From this Moment – Shania Twain
• Don’t wanna miss a thing - Aerosmith

Dinner music should be comparable to your cocktail music. Jazz, and adult contemporary are most common genres, however anything easy listening will suffice. Most popular artist for this time of the evening, are classics, like Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Dean Martin etc.

Sharing a dance with your parents is a traditional element of the evening. Most choose a sentimental song, such as the likes of “Bob Carlisle – Butterfly Kisses” and a “Song for my Daughter – Ray Allaire”. Songs of ethnic tradition are commonly used as well. If you are trying to stray from the tear jerking classics, good song choices are as follows:

• Unforgettable – Nat King Cole
• The Way You look tonight – Frank Sintra
• What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong
• You’re the Inspiration – Chicago
